Gegenwart Auktionen was founded in 2025 with the vision of making art from the 20th and 21st centuries accessible to a broad, art-loving public.

The idea to found the company was born out of one of our partners’ personal passions for collecting (art) and his numerous visits to auctions. This enthusiasm gave rise to the desire to set up our own auction house, which art would be presented in a new, contemporary way in Vorarlberg.

The result was a dedicated team of four personalities from different professional backgrounds, age groups and genders, united by their shared passion for art and aesthetics. Our founders include collectors, gallery owners and art dealers as well as experts with in-depth experience in several renowned auction houses.

Our mission is to present the works of these eras in a personal, transparent and contemporary way. Our auction house stands for a network of expertise, mutual trust and absolute discretion.

Through hybrid auctions, we combine classic auction methods with the possibilities of the digital world. In this way, we offer art lovers worldwide the opportunity to experience our auctions while remaining firmly rooted in the regional art scene. As the name suggests, we want to present art in a way that is accessible to our customers – with clarity and openness.

Arno Schuchter

Arno Schuchter is the initiator of the Gegenwart Auktionen. After working in the insurance industry for many years and his steadily growing interest in collecting 20th and 21st century art, the idea of an auction house in Vorarlberg was developed a few years ago. He is the partner, managing director and auctioneer.

Marie-Christine Metzler

Marie-Christine Metzler grew up in a culturally interested household. After studying in Europe and Asia, she spent a total of eight years working at the Munich auction houses Scheublein Art & Auktionen, Karl & Faber and Hampel Fine Art Auctions. After moving back to her native Vorarlberg, she worked as an art inventory specialist for private art collections before joining Gegenwart Auctions as a partner and managing director.
